Associate Interior Designer
Role Description
An Associate Interior Designer is responsible for producing high quality project design deliverables from concept generation through to completion. They work directly with the Creative Director & CEO on tasks and deliverables, and will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from large (100 bedroom hotel and amenities) to multiple small and medium projects. They may be responsible for a team that consists of designers from junior to senior levels. Associate Designers play a key role in setting milestone dates for the issue of design documentation, and act as a positive role-model to others, supporting the team and company culture. They demonstrate, through every aspect of who they are, a passionate love of design, art and beauty, and be responsible for delivering sensory, experience centred design; providing a seamless service to our clients from start to completion.
- Working closely with contractors, suppliers and architects, you will coordinate and manage a multitude of tasks simultaneously.
- Up-to-date knowledge of design trends, innovative design materials, products and suppliers is key.
- Demonstrating cultural curiosity; through up to date knowledge of new spaces, developments, F&B and environments that support our strategic goals.
- Work alongside the Directors at the highest level to lead multiple and varied projects, with the assistance of more junior members of the team.
- Confident, loyal, trustworthy, dynamic & charming - you will hold your own with clients, project consultant teams, suppliers, contractors, and fabricators, representing and promoting Jolie.
- Excellent project leadership skills, including the ability to mentor more junior members of the team.
- Proactive, great instincts, open to feedback, with boundless amounts of positive energy.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Design & Project Management
- Demonstrate proficiency in the tools that we use internally.
- Responsible for a clear overview and planning of workload.
- Demonstrate a high standard of technical ability and a strong understanding and knowledge of sustainably sourced materials.
- Demonstrate a passion for FF&E with vast knowledge of suppliers, product and specialist finishes, as well as the ability to design bespoke pieces of furniture. (It will be good to see you design bespoke FF&E pieces and designs through the manufacturing process)
- Understand & manage project programs and deadlines.
- Demonstrate an exceptional eye for scale and balance, detail and colour.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of and appreciation for sensory design, through the delivery of experience driven concepts from start to finish.
- Impeccable and concise communication and presentation skills, verbal and written - with a focus on Jolie Sensory presentation
- Provide strong project leadership and seamless service to our clients, with exceptional communication throughout.
- Deliver consistently within the project’s plan, budget and time constraint
- Attend regular internal and external design team meetings and lead on the conceptual and developed side of the design process.
- Coordinate and oversee project documentation, ensuring comments & revisions are always up to date and information is 100% correct
- Report meeting minutes to client teams/internal teams if/when required
- Identify weakness in process & tools, recommending new alternatives.
- Manage the timelines of your projects, communicating key dates for feedback & input - providing senior management with a clear view of your time planning
- Support the Senior Management team in producing detailed project timelines with internal milestones.
- Provide regular and timely updates and progress reports to the Directors
- Manage and check information produced by consultants, sub-contractors, team members and suppliers.
- Respond effectively to complex questions and troubleshoot problems
- Apply strategic thinking to projects.
- Deliver beautiful, smart and well planned presentation decks.
- Forecast, identify, and communicate risks and bring ideas and solutions to the table.
- Close projects efficiently- support the project team on rectifying snags and wrapping up projects up as quickly as possible.
Creative Direction / Stage 1
- Together with the Creative Director, lead the creative and conceptual stages of the projects - from demographic research, cultural learnings through to sensory research and understanding
- Confident knowledge of the drivers behind our design ethos - sensory & experience led design in order to communicate, educate and inspire both internally and externally
- Run immersive & efficient client briefing sessions, with a focus on the sensory aspect of the design as well as the operational requirements.
- Drive and inspire the design team, bring new ideas, helping to source new FF&E, materials, and products
- Deliver confident, experienced and skilled space planning, applying knowledge of the planning process and building regulations where applicable.
- Independently present and sell-in concepts and design solutions to our Clients, presenting eloquently and with passion and clear understanding to immerse the client in the scheme ahead of time.
- Offer clear guidance and inspiration for team in the concept phase
- Develop & present new business pitch work
- Deliver clear and consistent written messaging throughout

Developed Design / Stage 2
- Responsible for ensuring all Finishes meet Technical, Financial and Operations Requirements
- Ensure creative deliverables are on brief
- Responsible for exceptional communication skills to translate your vision to clients and colleagues through drawings, visuals, creative language and specifications.
- Development of design intent through JOLIE process
- Effective collaboration with CGI artist to minimise multiple design rounds
- Ensures that the integrity of the agreed design solutions are maintained by taking responsibility for the development of the design and the project
- Confidently present the scheme to client teams, managing changes & feedback effectively
- Produce immaculate, well considered delivery drawings and specifications.

Tender Design / Stage 3
- Liaise with Project Design Team to ensure coordination between Drawings
- Collaborate efficiently with the Arch team, providing clear direction and handover
- Review drawing packages for fit out and specification documents
- Reviews and Mark Up Drawings
- Responsible for planning clear timeline for check in and handover at key stages
- Reviews construction drawings
- Workshop and problem solve together with the architects and designers
- Review and Sign Off of Joinery Drawings
- Liaising with Furniture Procurement to ensure their understanding of Design Intent
Technical Design, Construction & Post Delivery
- Attends site meetings, manages RFl's
- Involvement in V.E Workshops
- Manage the consultancy budget and flag if additional time is required
- Attends Design Team Meetings and sets attendance for other team members
- Work with Procurement Teams to coordinate Delivery / Installation
- Management and Co-Ordination of Site Installation
- Responsible for Snagging and follow-up process
Team Support
Support the Senior Management team by
- Contributing to setting our internal design standards, ensure they are implemented by the team.
- Role model behaviours and representing the JOLIE brand internally and externally.
- Streamlining processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency.
- Monitoring the project team’s output, report back to Senior Management in a constructive manner, highlighting successes and failures.
- Helps maintaining a happy and positive work environment by organising regular social events
- Input into JOLIE marketing - blog posts, learning resources and external events and presentations
- Play a central role in client management and satisfaction; maintaining and growing existing relationships, while identifying future opportunities.
Oversee and Support Middleweight and Junior Designers across various projects by;
- Mentoring, providing help and guidance on any design-based queries.
- Redlining corrections, teaching the approved process, and ensuring procedures are followed.
- Liaises with Director with regards to management and performance of Designers
- Drive and constantly work towards improving the company and our staff’s work experience, growth and studio culture.
- Encourage and promote team spirit and motivation.
- Manages personal and team workflow and efficiency
- Ensures resources are available for the team (Software, Hardware, Lib Data), purchasing, etc.
- Works closely together with Directors to ensure continuous improvement of JOLIE Standards (handbook for starters, schedules, suppliers list, filing structure, check lists)
- Sends weekly reports to Director of his/her projects
- Acts as a mentor and helps managing the career development of the design team
- Assigns project hours to Float on a daily level
